Prayers & Squares  Chapter  1150 FAQs

1. How are recipients for the Prayer Quilts chosen?

Church members may request a prayer quilt be made for a family member or friend who is going through a difficult period in their lives.

2. What if the recipient is unable to request and/or receive a Prayer Quilt?

It is the intent of the Prayer Quilt ministry that quilts are made for persons who are able to understand the purpose/intent for receiving the quilt. Members do not want to see the quilts used as an end-of-life gift.

3. What if the recipient does not want to receive our prayers in the form of a quilt? When a person is asked about receiving a quilt, if they don’t want personal information shared with the church, then another form of the Yarn and Thread Ministry should be used. No quilt is to be given without the express permission of the recipient.

4. Are there color guidelines for making the quilts? A recipient is encouraged to express a desire for a certain color, but if that is not done, they will receive one of the quilts made by the Prayers and Squares quilt members.

5. Can specific prayers for the recipient be requested? Yes

6. Can a quilt be purchased from this ministry? No. Donations may be made to the ministry, but the quilts themselves are not sold.

7. Are quilts given to people who are not members of our church? We are more than willing to make a quilt for a non-church member, but the person requesting the quilt must be willing to donate the minimum $200 that goes into the making of the quilt.

8. Is this ministry a part of the church budget? No. Donations are welcomed and desired.

9. Since the ministry is not part of the church budget, who pays for the supplies? The ministry relies totally on donations. Members currently pay for all of the supplies for the ministry. We did sell Christmas ornaments for a donation and made money that was used for the ministry.

 10. How much do the quilting supplies cost? An average quilt is made usually for around $200.

11. Who pays for the fabric, cards, ribbons, and crosses used in the pocket prayer squares? Most of these supplies are purchased by group members. Some receipts are turned in and members are reimbursed.
